John Muir Health includes two of the largest and highly acclaimed medical centers in Contra Costa County: John Muir Health Walnut Creek Medical Center, a 554-licensed bed medical center that serves as Contra Costa County's only designated trauma center; and John Muir Health Concord Medical Center, a 244-licensed bed medical center in Concord. Together, they are recognized as preeminent centers for neurosciences, orthopedics, cancer care, cardiovascular care, high-risk obstetrics, and critical care for newborns and children.
John Muir Health also offers complete inpatient and outpatient behavioral health programs and services at our Behavioral Health Center, a fully accredited, 73-bed psychiatric hospital located in Concord.
Other areas of specialty include general surgery, robotic surgery, weight-loss surgery, rehabilitation and critical care. All hospitals are accredited by The Joint Commission, a national surveyor of quality patient care.

The John Muir Health Physician Network is a not-for-profit medical foundation with more 1,000 primary care and specialist physicians. The physicians associated with the John Muir Health Physician Network belong to John Muir Medical Group, John Muir Health Multispecialty Medical Group, John Muir Health Cardiovascular Medical Group, John Muir Health Cancer Medical Group, or are independent physicians practicing in our community. These physicians accept most major health insurance plans, as well as Medicare.
UCSF Health and John Muir Health have been collaborating to expand access to world-class healthcare in the East Bay. This affiliation includes our Berkeley Outpatient Center, a joint medical center for primary care, urgent care, specialists, lab and imaging, all under one roof. The partnership also brings both of our health care organizations together to provide a comprehensive Cancer Network.
Together, John Muir Health and Stanford Medicine Children’s Health have formed a partnership to bring comprehensive pediatric specialty services closer to home for families in the East Bay and surrounding communities by accessing Stanford Medicine Children’s Health specialists locally through John Muir Health. With this partnership, we also provide critical care for newborns at our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and critical care for children at the only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in Contra Costa County.
Through our partnership with San Ramon Regional Medical Center, we are working to expand and improve care, access, and services for patients in the growing Tri-Valley area, including an outpatient center in Pleasanton.
John Muir Health and Carbon Health are working together to create the largest network of urgent care and primary care facilities in the eastern region of the San Francisco Bay Area. This unprecedented collaboration will increase health care access and drive seamless navigation and care coordination for thousands of Carbon Health and John Muir Health patients. Carbon Health primary care patients at affiliated East Bay locations will have access to John Muir Health’s highly skilled clinicians, including advanced imaging, neurosciences, orthopedics, cancer, gynecologic surgery, cardiovascular, pediatrics, high-risk obstetrics, and more.
